A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

Buy your miles and thus contribute to a better future for orphans.

    Report 20 June

    On the road again

    01-06-2024 to 22-06-2024
    Ger and Wim.

Planning from Amsterdam via Istanbul to Almaty.

After some delay of 7 hours in Istanbul due to… missing a flight still arriving at the start.

No trace of the Landrover and the Model T there. Turned out to be behind the hotel.

We are the relief of Marijke and Nico, their contribution is over and ours is starting well.

Reason for broken leaf springs on the front of the Model T. And as is the case with a 109 year old car, you make friends and acquaintances. This also includes people who can obtain leaf springs.

The Model T placed on the foundations of Almaty. Removed the broken springs and put the new custom ones back on. Lucky for Dirk that a professional, Ger, was with him.

Which also resulted in some modifications being possible to the car along the way.

Such as wheel change, fuel line, lighting, tires and radiator cap.

The problem with describing the landscape you drive through is that it is impossible. What a variety of colours and scents. Also how small you can feel between those rocks.

But also the warmth and hospitality of the people along the way, truckers, cyclists, motorcyclists and the local population. Sleeping at the home of people who share everything with you, no matter how little they have themselves.

But the best part is the joy that the Model T brings to people on the road. The surprise on the faces of everyone you see when the Model T drives past.

It was very special for us to be a small part of Trudy and Dirk’s 2024 Grand Tour.

We sincerely enjoyed the entire period and are happy to pass the baton to Dirk-Jan and Danny who will drive the next route with Trudy and Dirk.

We wish them a good and safe journey towards the final destination EDAM!

    Ger & Wim
