A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

Buy your miles and thus contribute to a better future for orphans.

    july 25 – day 34

Posted on 25 July 2012 by Michiel

This morning Dirk and Mohammed, our guide, went to the harbor to get the right stamps on the car papers. We tried to mobilise as much people as we can: the ANWB (dutch organisation) the ADAC (german organisation), the Egypt Automobile club and the Dutch embassy in Cairo. Unfortunately without succes.
Because of  Ramadan the office closes between 12.15 and 20.00. For this morning: nothing has changed.

    het onbijt

We stay in the Sayadeen Village Resort, a small guesthouses at the beach. Because there are only 2 or 4 other guests at the resort it’s very quit. A shame, it’s a beautifull place, with good food and very good care. We swim in the Red Sea, it’s more floating than swimming but very refreshing.

At 20.00 Dirk and Mohammed go back to the harbor, at 23.00 they get back disappointed an angry: the cars are not allowed to enter Egypt or we have to pay a large amount of money. While waiting Dirk studied the diffrent officers: at desk 1 an officer fills in a form (by hand, they don’t use computers), this officer heads to his collegue at desk 2 who fills in an other form. Officer 2 walks to desk 3 and that officer puts a stamp on the form and walks to desk 4, etc etc. Very efficient… the whole office is filled with boxes of all kinds of papers.

voor het eerst aan het roken

However dissapointing we end the day with a drink, a smoke of waterpipe, a dance on 70’s music and a smile.

    Dirk relaxed

We are appreciating all the comments we are getting!

        Nel

I saw on the Internet that you knew Dick Looysen in the past. I knew the whole Looysen family in Tholen and I’m anxious to know if his sister Ank is still alive. I am the Godmother of her daughter, Frannie, who mus be more than fifty years old now! I would like to have contact with both Ank and Frannie, if possible.

I was interested to note that Nel Sint knew Dick Looysen in the past. I knew his whole family in Tholen and am the Godmother of the daughter of Ank Looysen, Dick’sister. I have lost contact with Ank. I know that Dick died in 1988 but have no recent news of the other members of his family. His brother Robert has also died but I reslly would like to know if Ank and her husband Ivan are still alive and where I could contact Frannie, their daughter.
