A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Thursday July 4th

Posted on 4 July 2013 by Rozemarijn

We start with a lot of wind and some rain. Therefore we reorganise the Land Rover so three people can sit in there, because we only have raincoats available for three people right now.

The wind makes folding the tent a hard job.

In the meanwhile Dirk is checking the valves of the Model T, which appear to be perfect.

The Land Rover doesn’t close well at some points, so the Land Rover gets some maintenance as well.

On our way we pass an advertisement about 100 years Ford, what a coincidence!

During a coffee stop Joris notices the front door of the Land Rover isn’t closing very well either, so this is adjusted. After cutting the inside covering of the door, it closes and opens perfectly again!

Today is the 4th of July. In most villages you can buy fireworks and the streets are decorated with flags and flowers.

We drive through a very beautiful area where dinosaurs have lived in the past. After that the landscape becomes greener, very pretty!

We drive a long road along the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. We arrived in Wyoming!

There are no houses in this area, but suddenly we see the campground. A more crowded campground than you would expect in this area! At night we can see the fireworks which is let off at the lake because of the 4th of July.

Tomorrow we have to drive about 220 miles (350 km), because we promised to arrive in a town near Jackson (Wyoming). This is more than we normally drive, so we agree to rise at 5, so that we can get on the road at 7. A challenge! Hopefully there won’t be too much mountains on our route…
    Today we drove 249 km.
