A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

Buy your miles and thus contribute to a better future for orphans.

Next he and Floor go to the city, to watch the game. Hugo was right. 5-1. Only one difference, 5 goals for Holland!!!! They make us proud!

On the way to Popayan the hand break of the Landrover broke. Not really handy when you’re driving in the mountains…Dirk and Daan have a big job fixing this.

In the evening we’re having dinner with Filipo and his friend Henrique. They also give us a little city tour. After this we can’t wait to go to bed because next day we want to leave at 06:00 in the morning…

In the evening we were invited to attend the car club meeting. They gave us a few good tips for the rest of our journey. Dirk gave them a presentation about the world tour.

After that we went to bed, tomorrow a long trip to Pereira.

    Tuesday 10th June

Because Medellín is a huge city, Flavio (also a CCC member) showed us the way to get out of the city. Unfortunately, his car ran out of fuel, but that’s no problem for us.

After that, we left to Pereira. During the trip, a lot went wrong. The two cars lost each other, and Daan lost his cell phone. Finally, we found each other and we continued our trip to Pereira. In Pereira, another friend of Hugo Suarez, Henry Rivera, was waiting for us.

We left to Caucasia. Driving to Caucasia was amazing because the surrounding was beautiful. In the small towns the model T got a lot of attention.

One of the highlights of today was crossing the river on an old bridge.

    Sunday 8th June

Sunday we wanted to leave early, because we had to drive for a long time threw the mountains, heading to Medellín. Unfortunately, we had rain, so we left later.

We were stopped by the army several times, because they wanted to have a picture with the Model-T.

After that, we drove to castello San Felipe. Of course, we had to make a picture of the Ford in front of the castle.

    Report by Floor

    Tuesday June 3rd

Even though they gave us a million promises, we didn’t see the cars today. In the morning we upgraded the website.

    Dirk's office

Our Colombian friend Hugo Suarez Fiat advised us to buy a Colombian phone. We did this together with Rodolfo. Using hand and feet, a dictionary and some drawings to explain Rodolfo what we wanted.

    Wednesday June 4th

A terrible start of the day. The watertap in the kitchen broke off, so we had a waterballet. Fortunately Floor found a new talent.

    The fixers

At noon Rodolfo showed us a small family restaurant around the corner. Here we had a lovely lunch.

    el almuerzo

In the afternoon we went to customs once again. They made copies of all our papers again, and they confronted us with a huge price for the cars. Instead of 1500 euros, what they promised us, we had to pay 4000 euros (which is 11, 5 million pesos). So the rest of the day we spend with cash machines and banks. Finally, just before closing hour of the bank, we were able to pay the bill. If it works out right, we should get the cars tomorrow.
