A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour,about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Depart from Holland and arrival in Canada.
    After saying goodbye to all the people in Holland, on the way to Canada with a delay of one hour we arrive in Toronto.

    Trudy and Dirk picked us op from the airport. The boarder was no problem; even the Edam cheese from Wiprecht was no problem.
    Dirk and Trudy had their camp in Niagara Falls, 127 km from Toronto.

    A very nice Canadian campsite with 12 places for us alone.
    The first day of our holiday was a great experience.

    Today we say good bye to our crew Barry and Dennis. They go back to Holland. We have had a very nice time with the boys.
    It is raining cats and dogs this morning.
    We bring the boys to the airport in Toronto.

    Back at the camp site in Niagara Falls every thing was very wet. We bought some tarpaulins to cover the tent and the Model T.

    Next morning, Sunday, we picked up our new crew at the airport in Toronto; Sjaak Regter, Dirk’s brother and his wife Coby de Wit.

    When we left the campsite at island of Long Point we looks for crossing turtles, but we didn’t see them.

    Today has our son Dirk-jan his birthday, so we planned coffee with cake. There was no cake in the restaurant so we did on the beach

    We have a beautiful tour along the Niagara River.

    The first campsite were we arrived was closed but later we found a nice campsite in Niagara Falls.
    In the morning the camp host visited us and Dirk told the story about our world tour.

    In the afternoon we go to the Niagara Falls. Very impressive and beautiful to see and to hear the power of the falling water.

    After a nice breakfast we say good bye to our hostes and host Jannie and Paul from New Haven, Detroit.

    Along the Lake St. Clair we go to the border of Canada.
    We cross the St. Clair River by ferry and arrive in Ontario.

    At noon we arrive at RM Classic Cars in Blenheim, where we are invited to see their collection of classic cars and motorcycles.

    After a nice lunch we have a tour along their bautifull collection.

    We also got a tour through the beautiful garage, where the mechanics are working on all kind of cars.
    Unfortunately it was not allowed to take pictures in the garage.
    The mechanics give a critical look at the Model T and fortunately they are very content about the condition of the car.

    Before we leave to our next campsite at the island of Long Point, in Lake Erie, we fill up the Model T at RM’s fuel station.

    Today we’re going to the Henry ford museum in Detroit.

    It’s a very big museum where you can check out old cars and a lot more like plains and old trains.

    We had a very nice day, we have seen a lot and learned a lot.
    Now it’s time to go to Jannie and Paul again.

    We begin our day with a good breakfast, made by the camp host.

    The model T had some trouble with the electric starter we think it’s the battery.
    We did some research and cleaned the contacts and wires, everything works fine again.

    Were on our way again heading for Detroit.
    It’s a rainy day the first sinds we started, where on our way to Jannie who invited us in to here home.

    After a long day of driving and a lot of kilometres (400) we arrive at Jannie and Paul’s house.
    Finally we have a nice living room again where we can rest form a long day driving.

    After a good night sleep Dirk woke us up.

    We decided that we are going to make some reports and work on the model T.

    Today we have visited the model T museum.

    After the tour we where invited for lunch bij Jay and Barbara at a local restaurant.

    After lunch we got back on the road the make some miles.
    At the end of the day we reached a campsite, it was a Christian campsite where the pastor wanted an interview for the local newspaper.

    Today we’re leaving from St Louis and are heading for Richmond Indiana.

    When we stopt for a break at a store the owner saw the car and was very impressed.

    They offert us food and gave us t-shirts they where very kind.

    We drove it around the field, It was very nice.

    Today we had a rest day, Dick is going to show us St Louis.

    Trudy Dennis and Barry went up in the arch, with a little box we went up.

    You have a great view up there.

    After we went to the arch we went to the guy who repaired our alternator.

    The man gave us a special warranty of 25.000 miles because that are the miles we have left.

    After that we went to pick up the model T at Hyman, and to say goodbye

    Dick planned a meeting for the evening with the people of the T ford club and the members of the Dutch society. We had a wonderful evening.

    Today we decide to work on the cars.

    The spare altanator from the model t must be repaired and the starter of the land rover also.

    Time to do something.

    First the land rover but he is to heavy for the lift.

    It seems to be a filty contact of the starter.

    So we cleaned it and mounted back on the car.

    Now we can start on the alternator.
