A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Broken steering rod

We have been invited for a tour of the school. Four hundred children attend this school, 70% of whom come from nomadic families. They receive breakfast at school, paid for by the government. In the music room, a student and the teacher played a Mongolian harp. We sang along to the songs we are now familiar with. A nice start to this day.

Dirk felt play in the steering rack. Control and a little grease. We continue again.

Suddenly the Model T becomes undriveable: broken steering rod. A lot of tinkering follows. Beautiful collaboration between Nico and Dirk to replace the steering rod in the middle of the desert.

Two and a half hours later we drive again. Unbelievably over the ridges, the potholes and through the sand, we drive another hour and arrive at a beautiful place. There are camels and horses.

In the morning Dirk found a beautiful flower for Trudy. Then Dirk replaces a steering knuckle and we continue our journey, passing by camels, among other things. Oko put us in touch with a welder in the next village. We tie the welded steering rod to the roof of the Land Rover to cool.

During a coffee break along the way, hundreds of goats and sheep came to our pink cake.

At our new camping spot, Dirk and Nico replace the spare steering rod with the welded steering rod in the dark.
