A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report 28 August 2024

    By Inge.

After breakfast we pack all our stuff again and connect the T-Ford to the Landrover again, we are now driving towards Trier. We hope that we will have caught up enough by then so that we can drive the last part separately again. The plan is to enter Edam at 4 p.m. on Saturday, we will do our utmost to make it.
At 9:15 we are ready to leave. The first part goes very smoothly, the children are doing fantastic on this trip. They have come up with a new game again, with every yellow car Grandpa gets a nudge from Simon who is sitting next to him. Femke is now also counting them together with Linde, she came to 62 today. Grandpa will probably be black and blue tomorrow from all those pokes😄
We drive beautifully along the Moselle and all the vines.
Around 1 o’clock we enter Luxembourg. We uncouple the T-Ford and drive separately again. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long, the T-Ford has no oil pressure anymore. Dirk-jan and I go to investigate the nearest campsite where we can stay. Unfortunately, there is no room at the first one we come across. She refers us to a campsite 2 minutes further to the right, over the bridge and then left. We cross the bridge and hey we are back in Germany!
This campsite does have a place for us on the river under the trees. This river is the border, it is low tide, and they can play in it nicely. Here Dirk can tinker again. In the meantime, Dirk-jan and I set up the tent, and Trudy starts eating. After some hesitation Dirk first replaces the filter, and it seems to work again.

    Tomorrow towards Belgium.
Today we drove 252 km, in total we triangulated 848 km
