A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    To the Pamir Highway

On the road again. Saying goodbye to Nico and Marijke and riding with Ger and Wim.

We have discussed the route and are going to the border with Kyrgyzstan. Try to get over that today. It is still a tough ride of more than 200 kilometres and we started a bit late. Still, we

succeeded and we crossed the border without any problems after a nice drive. It’s almost dark but we’re there!

We had to pick up permits at a hotel in Bishkek and luckily, we were able to sleep there too. Only it was difficult to get there. There were huge holes in the road but luckily Wim guided us there anyway. What a navigator.

In the morning the power line for the fin was installed and it is working again. Then we had to see the big crane move out of the way. Ask and wait and then we were on our way again.

Driving along mountains and rivers, enjoying yourself to the fullest and seeing so much.

What I forgot to tell you is that the fuel line has been moved. That was also a key job that required the entire camping equipment to be removed from the Land Rover to access the new fuel line.

The next morning past the Ashau pass, the men receive plants. That would have been nice to chew, but it was very sour. We have given them back to nature.

There is so much to see along the way. Herds of sheep also have to cross the road, causing some delays. There are also many bee hives. There is also delicious honey for sale here.

The Land Rover drove a bit ahead because we drove very slowly down the mountain and look… the lunch buffet was ready. That is also enjoyable.

We go around a beautiful lake and then up again. There is a special glacier in the shape of the T of T-Ford. Especially for us.

At the hotel, which we found with great difficulty, the rear wheel turned out to be broken. We worked until late and got it done.

The hard work to keep things running smoothly. But it worked again.

The next day we can roll again.

On the way to lunch, the man at a gas station gives us a bench and table and also 2 loaves of bread.

Then we continue to the Pamir Highway via a beautiful mountain route. The sky is getting darker and it is cold now. It’s special, so hot in the morning and now we have to wear a lot of clothes again. When we enter the Sari pass it starts to rain. It’s quite a climb. We arrive at 3400 meters. Snow and stones. Very different from the green mountains we had this morning. We got over it and can sleep in a guesthouse. Great place where we prepare for the high work of the Pamir Highway.
