A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report August 24, 2024

Today we really cross the border, we go up the pass, at the top is the border crossing. Then down, 18% that is a serious descent. Dirk says go ahead and wait for us at the bottom, because we are going very slowly.
We wait at the bottom and decide to prepare the coffee. Motorcyclists pass by and say that the T-Ford is stranded and that they have asked if we come up to help them. We pack everything again and go up, there we see Trudy waving my red blouse, Simon had it on in the T-Ford to protect himself from the sun.
The rear brakes no longer have any grip, and the ‘brake band’ of the 1st gear is probably also burned.

We discuss and decide to drive the T-Ford down with the triangle behind the Landrover. We drive down very slowly, the Landrover is already heavy with the T-Ford behind it. When we are safely downstairs, we go looking for a garage that can help us weld the pulley puller so that we can replace the brakes. Unfortunately, it is Saturday and all garages are closed. At 1 Dirk-jan hears welding noises inside, they knock on the doors and windows, and someone opens the door. The man sees the T-Ford and wants to help us. The pulley puller has been welded, the man is called Ibrahim and comes from Syria
We are close to the Millstätter see; there we decide to look for a campsite where we can continue tinkering. We will stay here for 1 to 2 days until everything is fixed again. We are going to replace the brakes and also the tires in the gearbox.
It is a nice campsite, showers with 3 shower heads, TV screens on the toilets, and when the children have been to the toilet they can even go outside with a slide, very special.
    Drove 72 km today
