A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    October 10th – Day 111

Posted on 10 October 2012 by Rozemarijn

    Wednesday 10 october

Today we are going to Makambako. We leave at 10.30 am.

    rijden01

After a few kilometres, the model T runs not good,

We assumed that the re-routing of the fuel line would solve this, but unfortunately it is not solved yet.

Dirk changes the carburetor and after one hour we are on the road again.

The Model T is still not ok, Dirk removes the air filter.

When we are rolling again, something terrible happened. Dirk-jan and Inge see that the right front wheel of the model T is braking off!

    It was scaring to see.

Trudy and Dirk step out of the car, what is happened?!

We decided to repair it the African way, we put bunches of wood on the road as a warning triangle.

The fuse pen is broken on two places.

We are sitting on the road, and started to remove the broken parts.

We make a test drive, its rolling again!

    rijden02

We decided to go back were we came from. We are happy there was no accident with braking the wheel, it was in slow speed..

Tomorrow Dirk will work on the car again.

In ieder geval, wy konden hun genoeg herberg hier geven by veel van ons leden.
