A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Friday 19th October

We are at the only green field in Malawi.

Early in the morning it’s already very busy on the beach, lots of fishermen.

At the Campsite there is a German man and an Australian lady who are riding for 10months on 2 Royal Enfields. De Enfields are rebuilt to Diesel versions in Germany.

Dirk and Trudy are adjusting the steering system.

Today we go for Lilongwe, it’s about 130km.

First we go to mr. Same, the best welder in Town to get the steering rod welded. He has got a nice garage.

The shocker rubber of the LandRover is worn, Same has it on stock, and they replace it.

Today is very hot again. A temperature gauge in the garage is pointing 38degrees. That’s in the shade. It will get 45degrees today. Pfffiew!

Dirk took of the steering shock absorber to unsee the steering rod. But at the first railway, the Ford starts to shimmy, so we have to place the shockabsorber again.

In this area of Malawi, the villages look different again, now there are more round ‘houses’, looks nice.

During a coffeebrake, Trudy teaches the children to count to 10.

We decide not to go for the campsite, it is not on the route to the boarder. We take a lodge, the owners are very proud we come here with the Model T.

Dirk shows that the engine is well adjusted, a coin doesnt fall when he puts it on the running engine.

      Hee, groetjes allemaal!
