A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    September 12 – day 83

Posted on 12 September 2012 by willy

We woke up early in Liasamis, after a quick check, Dirk discovers that the stirring rod has broken for the third time! We find a welder and reinforce it with an extra piece of metal, now it must hold. It has to be because we have one more day of dirt road ahead of us. After a few kilometres the Land Rover begins to act strange. We stop and find that the stabiliser has come off. Luck is with us, a couple off cars pass by and one of them happens to have the right bolt, how amazing is that! We fix the car and move on, and then it suddenly happens, after 400 km of bad roads, shaking and rambling, there is the tarmac road. We make a small dance, the average speed goes up from 15 km to 70 km per hour, and soon we reach Isolo where we spend the night.
