A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report 13 April

    Team complete

This morning we woke up and yes today is the big day for us. Will Nico and Dirk cross the China-Mongolian border? After breakfast (rice porridge and bread with fried eggs) we first move our luggage to another hotel, which has a guarded parking place. Down three flights of stairs and up three flights of stairs with all our luggage. Then quickly to the border. It is windy and dry in Zamiin Uud, the border town in the Gobi Desert: a sandstorm is coming. We are waiting anxiously with our Mongolian flags in our hands.

At half past twelve we received a reassuring message from the men that they were at the Chinese border.

And at half past two at the Mongolian customs, who checked the cars and the papers. In the meantime we were taking shelter from the sandstorm. We looked down the road towards the China-Mongolian border, because we were at the last checkpoint and then……the little lights of the Model T appeared from the sand.

We ran towards them with great enthusiasm. The men parked the cars and were embraced by us. Oko welcomed them in a traditional Mongolian way.

From this moment on we will continue our journey together. Our team is complete!

Goed nieuws Trudy en Dirk, de China hobbel is genomen! Leuk om de reisverslagen te lezen, we moesten erg lachen om het door de Chinezen met viltstift toeeigenen van Tibet! Het blijft een raar volk! Veel plezier in Mongolië, we volgen jullie digitaat!
