A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report August 16, 2024

    By Inge.

After a nice flight and a night in the too luxurious tent, today is the day,
if all goes well Dirk, Trudy, Willy, Michiel, Wouter and Silvia will arrive here at the campsite.

They have driven quite a bit the past few days to arrive at our campsite today.

Dirk-jan and I ask at reception in the morning if there is still room to camp. They confirm that there is still enough room. We enjoy the day by relaxing, reading books, drawing and swimming a lot. The heat is still very much getting used to, the slightest effort makes the sweat drip off us.
In the course of the afternoon I decide to get a few cold beers and some other goodies at the camp shop while the rest are still swimming. It won’t be long now before they come.
While I am paying I get a message, ‘We are almost there!’ Quickly back to the tent, Dirk-jan is now also back with the kids.
Simon picks up his accordion, he wants to catch up with them musically and walks to the reception.
Still, the team arrives a little earlier than us, but how nice it is to see each other again!
The kids and I have not seen Dirk and Trudy for over 4 months, how nice to hug each other again.
Some administrative work is arranged and we look for a camping spot for them near where we are. The children immediately go to the swimming pool and we toast.
The tent is set up, the roof tent is turned up and Dirk-jan decides to get some pizzas that we share together.

Willy, Michiel, Wouter and Sliva leave on Sunday evening so the children can still play together for a while in the coming days.
