A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report August 19, 2024

    By Inge.

Today is the day, our first day of driving Simon and Femke have been looking forward to this. It rained heavily last night, but the morning starts off fairly dry. We pack our things and have breakfast in between.
By the time we leave, it starts raining harder and harder, so we decide to postpone the sticker moment for a while.
I drive the Landrover towards the reception to check out. That takes some getting used to, the contact on the left side, the gear shifting and the gigantic turning circle the car has.
By the time we ‘really’ start driving, it’s pouring, Simon bravely crawls into the T-Ford anyway, after about 30 km they decide to put the hood on for the first time this trip, because of the heavy rain. Of course, it doesn’t stop everything, but it does a little.
The T Ford also gets the full force of a truck that drives right past where there is a thick layer of water on the road. At one point we come across a tent where we have a cup of coffee, the children go for hot chocolate. It is certainly 15 degrees cooler than the past few days so that goes down well. They also have pancakes on the menu and decide to have a bite to eat right away.
Simon is completely soaked, it was going so hard that the rain came through his rain suit, he wants to get in the Landrover after lunch. Because the five of us do not fit in the Landrover I go in the T-Ford. We drive a bit inland towards a waterfall. It is a beautiful route, but we do not find the waterfall. We eventually end up at a host and hostess who have a mini campsite and some rooms. We are allowed to sleep in 2 of those rooms together. Simon goes to Dirk and Trudy’s room and Dirk-jan, me and the girls in the other room.
A delicious meal is cooked for us, we play a game and then dive into our beds. Today we drove 181 km
