A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report August 22, 2024

    By Inge.

We slept well in the youth hostel, there is also plenty for the children to play with.
Today we are going on a trip, first to the Postonje caves and then to a castle that is partly carved out of the rocks. We have a beautiful tour of an hour and a half through the caves. First with a train, then a walk of an hour and then back with a train. Then we drove to the castle, which is 9 km further on. All narrow corridors and steep stairs carved out of the rocks. Simon and Femke look at all the rooms with great interest with the help of a Dutch audio tour on my phone
Afterwards we eat an ice cream and decide to drive a bit further to the next place to sleep. We drive beautifully through the woods and even come across unpaved roads. In the end the T-Ford starts to sputter, it seems that there is something wrong with the fuel supply. That means tinkering. Trudy goes to investigate and finds a flat area 2 bends further on, if they can’t solve the problem right away, we can pitch the tent there to camp and continue tinkering.
The fuel pump is malfunctioning, we have a spare, but it is in the bottom of the Landrover, so we fill the tank, that gives enough pressure and can continue driving.
And look for a place to sleep and a place to tinker.
At one point I see a sign for glamping, Dirk and Trudy have already passed by but we honk loudly and they turn around. We decide to try it because there probably won’t be anything for a while. We still have to go up a bit and we arrive at a beautiful spot. All the guesthouses are full, but they are happy to help us. We are allowed to sleep in a house where an employee normally sleeps who is not there now. Super sweet! They come by in the evening with home-brewed Jägermeister. We toast with each other and chat a bit more. Today we drove 26 km
