A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Report July 25

    Lagodeki – Campsite

    By Arnaud and Roos

Today will be our first driving day, as a follow-up team of Dirk and Trudy to Ankara in Turkey. After breakfast there is the official moment of handing over the keys to the Land Rover. Stickers with our names will also be placed on the car, as with all tracking teams that have been part of the world tour since it started in 2012.

We get bread for the road. The bread here is baked in a round stone pot and is delicious.

Now for the first kilometers! A beautiful road through the wine region of Georgia . The grapes grow on the edge of the high green mountains of the Caucasus. Along the road and in the villages we pass you will be amazed:

    Cows on the road
    Dogs on the road
    Grapes and wineries
A man on a tractor with his wife on a stool in his trailer
People behind their merchandise of their harvest of fruit or vegetables.
Lots of men on the sidewalk, what would they do all day….
    Men playing dominoes
    Men who play cards
    Men who drink
And there is a lot of tinkering on cars

Arnaud is already getting a trickster’s arm . We encounter a road closure, which means we have to change our plans. Because in these mountains you can’t just take a detour. It will be a new route that runs more via the north. Around 4 p.m. Arnaud sees a campsite in a beautiful spot next to a lake. This is where we set up camp. We start with a beer. They have a special tap that can only tap 2 liter bottles. Then we set up the tent, Dirk and Trudy sleep in the roof tent. The boys gather wood and we have a delicious meal by the campfire. 🔥 When we go to sleep, Floris pees out the fire 😃 What a wonderful holiday day!
