A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

    Campsite – Gori

    By Arnaud and Roos

This area was haunted last night. A lot of rain has fallen and the large tent appears to be leaking during the night and is dripping right onto Arnaud’s bed… I crawl into the inner tent with the boys. Fortunately it is dry when we wake up. Dirk sprays the tent with a special substance to make it waterproof again. It just needs to soak in for 36 hours, we’re not going to wait for that. We clean up and leave for the west.

What a beautiful mountain road. This is official steering with all those hairpin bends. And Arnaud is a top driver. It’s a lot harder work than a ride in the Tesla. High yaw, low yaw, strong steering and shifting here and the gear shifts very heavily back to 2nd gear.

It’s so much fun to drive behind the T-Ford. With those two heads dancing back and forth.

It has also been quite spooky in the mountains here. Entire stretches of road have been washed away. Pfff exciting driving. The reactions that the T-Ford has on people is great to see. He puts a smile on many (toothless) faces, people wave, honk, film or want to have their picture taken.

The road we had planned in advance turns out to be so bad that we turn around and take a larger, but also busier road towards the south. It’s raining cats and dogs! We are dry in the Land-Rover , but this is quite intense for Dirk and Trudy in the open car… We drive in the lead and navigate towards the city of Gori , our final destination for today.

We pass a stately building ( city hall) where someone drives ahead of us towards a hotel where the cars can also be parked. Gori is Stalin’s birthplace, and the Stalin Museum is also located here. But let’s skip that for now…
