A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

Buy your miles and thus contribute to a better future for orphans.

    November 7th – day 139

Posted on 7 November 2012 by Rozemarijn

    Wednesday 07 November

Today we make our first day in the direction of Campsite Elephant Sands.

We want to do it in 2 days. Today we want to drive about 200km.

We leave Maun at 8. That’s a good time, its already hot.

During the trip we pass 2 National Parks.

Its very flat and a lot of strong wind. We see 2 small cyclones.

Today it’s really very hot. Dirk drives the Ford below the 60km per hour. That way the temperature of the car stay just below the 100 degrees.

During the lunch Dirk-jan cools down on the Ford.

We pass several disinfection stops. After a fridge-check and washing the shoes and tires we can go on.

It’s not always refreshing in the open car..

At 1500 we arrive at the campsite in Gwetse. There is a pool!!

    First a fresh dive!

At the campsite is standing a Dodge Brothers.

The steelwork is still very hard, and the engine and drive line are fully complete, a nice project..

The Ford is equipped with a start battery and a backup battery.

Dirk mentioned this morning that the Ford was not starting on the start battery only. With the backup batteries no problem.

So we check the voltage of the start battery, this is very low. We also check the voltage when the motor is running. The multimeter shows a very strange high Voltage. We call our electrical helpdesk, Bart.

He thinks the regulator is broken. This is built in the alternator, so we change the alternator with the spare one.

Still we have the strange high voltage. It´s a strange story.

    Today we did 240 km´s.

Tomorrow further in the direction of Nata.
