A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

Buy your miles and thus contribute to a better future for orphans.

    Report 10, 11, 12 and 13th August
    Report by Karin and Simon

    Sunday 10th  August
We leave for Potosi. We are not in a hurry and take it easy. We see a lot of special things along the road such as a valley full of cactus plants, a special traffic sign and beautiful views. We spend the night in the Potosi SOS Village.

We continue our way to Uyuniu. Again we drive through impressive mountains and over a plain on 12.000 feet altitude and we again see a lot of Lama’s and Guanaco’s , a sort of dear which are rarely seen.

At Uyuni is a world famous cemetery for steam trains, very special to see. The Dakar motor race passed this place this year as well. The cemetery is adjacent to a huge salt lake; we stay in a hotel totally built with salt blocks, a unique hotel to spend the night.

    Tuesday 12th August
The road we have to take is a dirt road; we can hardly make more than 10 miles per hour.
We don’t reach our next stop so we have to camp at an altitude of again 12.000 feet. It is freezing cold but the sky is filled with stars and we can see the Milky Way as clear as Chrystal since there is no moon.
