A charity tour for orphan children

Trudy and Dirk Regter from the Netherlands go on a world tour in a 1915 Ford Model T, covering all continents of the world. They are making this trip with the aim of raising money for orphans worldwide.

To date, they have driven 64,000 miles across 31 countries and have raised more than $45,000 spent on children's projects in Colombia and Bolivia. An earlier trip by Dirk in 2007 from Beijing to Paris in the Model T raised more than $140,000, of which 2 children's projects were built in Mongolia. The last part of their world tour, about 10,500 miles, takes them back home to the Netherlands via Asia. If you support the purpose of this journey, you can take ownership of some of these 10,500 miles of this final leg.

Buy your miles and thus contribute to a better future for orphans.

    Report 20 August

    Report 20 August
    Report by Greetje en Steef.

Again the weather is beautiful when we get up and have breakfast in our hotel: Las Girasolles with it’s impressive stove in the main gallery.

Trudy and Greetje are going to collect some money. It is still so quiet in town and the market is not open yet. Colorful decorations are hanging above the market stalls.
One of them already is open and there Greetje and Trudy are buying some mandarins.

Off we go again for our final aim : Sucre, capital of Bolivia and the place where our T Ford  is waiting for us with patience.
On route we have the usual coffee/lunch breaks, this time in unstable area witch means earthquakes. A small heard of goats stands about in a corner of the road.

Finally we reach Sucre where we get stuck in a traffic jam. Angry citizens have made a roadblock and busses, cars, truck’s line-up into one big mess.
Dirk manages to back up the Landrover out of this chaos . A taxi driver leads us to a shortcut through a river and over a railway. What follows now is a chaotic ride, for we are not the only one taking this shortcut.

Last but not least some wise guy closes a big gate along the track. Pay first !
Finally we’re going through the big gate of the SOS Children’s Villages compound.
Some of the children recognize the red car, smile and wave at us.
